Edson, located at the mid-way point between Festival City Edmonton and Majestic Jasper National Park on the Yellowhead Highway. Edson is the Slo-Pitch Capital of Canada.
In 2011, Edson will celebrate its 100th Anniversary as a town. A gigantic celebration is planned that will actually take 10 months to fit in all the events. The celebration year will include live theatre, choirs, and dance performances, all kinds of local arts, curling bonspiels, hockey, golf and soccer tournaments, trade show, rodeos, Fire Fighter’s Combat Challenge, Provincial Legion Convention, parades, Sidewalk Jamboree, Kin Slo-Pitch Tournament during the August long weekend and for the first time in Edson, a performance by the world famous Ukrainian Shumka Dancers from Edmonton.
The 10-month celebration will culminate during the weekend of September 21-24, 2011 with the Celebration of 100 years and Homecoming. The weekend will feature an awards presentation night, as well as homecoming supper and ball. The 24th wraps up with a performance of the outstanding Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, which will proudly be celebrating their 60th anniversary. The music of the evening will portray the last 100 years.
